Chelsea are believed to have opened talks with Borussia Dortmund over a deal to sign Erling Haaland that would smash several transfer records.
Haaland is one of the most coveted young talents in world football, terrorising defences across Europe despite still being just 20.
He scored 41 goals in 41 games in all competitions for Dortmund this season and is already one of the top strikers in the world.
The Norway superstar has a release clause in his contract of £68million, but that does not become active until 2022.
Dortmund have reiterated their desire to keep hold of him for at least another season, releasing multiple statements saying words to those effect.
But that has not stopped the rumour mill churning, not least helped by the actions of his father, Alf-Inge, and agent Mino Raiola.
Their globe trotting has seen then hold talks with Real Madrid, Barcelona and four Premier League clubs – believed to be Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Man United.
Dortmund only signed Haaland in January 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg, for just £17m, but their resolve is set to be tested this summer.
Multiple reports claim Chelsea have opened talks with the Bundesliga club over a deal – said to be in the region of £170million.
The Blues could offer players as part of the deal, with Tammy Abraham’s name has been mentioned in initial talks.
The Blues are said to be confident of being able to do a deal, but his £300,000-a-week wage demands could pose an issue.
Haaland himself was not giving much away when asked about his future recently.
“Well I have a contract for a couple of years, so I am respectful towards my contract,” he told Viaplay.
“I am a simple guy. When I like something I just want to have more – when I score a goal, I always chase the next goal.”
Former Charlton, Tottenham and Aston Villa striker Darren Bent believes the Blues haven’t had a proper No.9 since Diego Costa and thinks signing Haaland would shake up the Premier League next season.
He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “Haaland has got star quality. Tammy [Abraham] did well for a little while, [Olivier] Giroud is at the back end of his career, but I know he’s important.
“The last time Chelsea had a proper No.9… you had [Diego] Costa, and obviously [Didier] Drogba before that.
“If they go and get Haaland, someone who knows where the net is, we’ve not seen him in the Premier League, but we know the quality is there.
“If they get someone who is capable of getting 20-25 goals, the league next seasons is going to be so interesting.
“That’s what you have to admire about Roman Abramovich and Chelsea, he doesn’t sit on the fence.
“You want £170million? Bang, there you go!”
